Supination / Under-Pronation

Supination, also known as under-pronation, occurs when the foot rolls outward instead of inward while walking or running. This places most of the pressure on the outer edge of the foot and limits natural shock absorption through the arch. The result can be pain, instability, and added stress on the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.

Common Symptoms

Pain along the outside of the foot or ankle
Frequent ankle rolling or sprains
Shoes wearing out faster on the outer edge
Heel or Achilles tendon pain
Stiff or high arches that don’t absorb impact well
Foot fatigue during walking or standing

What Causes Supination

High or rigid arches
Past ankle injuries
Inherited foot shape
Muscle imbalance in the lower leg
Worn-out or unsupportive shoes

Without proper support, the joints and muscles must work harder to keep the foot stable.

How Support Helps

Supportive insoles help guide the foot into a more natural position and distribute weight more evenly.
This improves balance, reduces strain on the outside of the foot, and enhances comfort with every step.

Recommended Support

Orleans Arches support all four arches of the foot and improve alignment from the ground up. This helps reduce impact forces and limit outward rolling during movement.

Proper Shoes Matter

Supinated feet need shoes with good cushioning and stability.
Look for styles with:

Strong heel support
Room through the midfoot
Supportive cushioning to absorb shock
